I shall start up the Frazer as soon as possible with only fifty? men but who must be able to do the work of five hundred ordinary men and that too while subsisting upon the Country. though carrying the smallest possible quantity of trading goods. All other men and supplies must be sent in to me by Col Bulkley by the Youkon, Stickun and Frazer Rivers and such other routes as we discover according as Col Bulkley and myself find most expedient.

I ought to have sailed yesterday and am waiting only for Col Bulkley to supply me with transportation and outfit, which is all I require now from him. Why does he not have the means to furnish the little I need? I can get fifty men here that will answer my purposes as explorers and Indian Officers, and if I can reach the head of Frazer with this party and their light equipment by June first, and the waters of the Li and Ab
