It is very evident to me that Bulkley does not at all appreciate the true difficulties he will have to contend with in the Youkon region. And I think he has less faith in my judgement of the state of the country than might be profitable to him. - He expects me to subsist on the army ration and cook with any utensils etc etc - In fact he runs army a little too far for such a country. I have not thus far been allowed to choose my own outfit and have been absolutely obliged to purchase many articles myself which the co. ought to have furnished - and withal will probably get rapped over the knuckles for my pains. But I'm not going to carry subordination to any such absurd extent as to neglect proper measures for the safty of my party when these can in no way interfere with the objects of the exped. - Bulkley is I'm afraid a whimsical man and certainly a very [[underlined]] predjudiced [[/underlined]] one. - It is most fortunate for me and the interests of Natural
