History ^[[and perhaps the Teleg co.]] that I have - despite my vexations - such a warm liking and admiration for him. I get very much enraged at him almost daily, - for such things as his absurd reticence - his "army regulation" notions, his refusal of reasonable and proper equipment to my party and above all his allowing that villianous humbug Hyde to prejudice him against my plans - But I have never failed to treat him with proper deference and respect and have patiently submitted to a good deal of unfair treatment from him. - Unless his vanity is hurt by finding how much more correct my ideas are than his own [[strikethough]] afo [[/strikethrough]] about the Youkon I think next spring he will do everything I could ask and have a very high opinion of me.

Withal I must say that he shows a great desire to [[strikethrough]] back up [[/strikethrough]] carry on heavy National History operations and has a great admiration for you and the Smithsonian. - Apropos dont fail to write to him in your usual persuasive style. - Enlarging upon the amount of good he can do etc. Dr. Loring helped me enormously in this respect. - But Bulkley is especially prejudiced in favor of the S.I. he appreciates the value
