I propose leaving a large collecting outfit at Frt St Michals in Norton Sound (about 75 miles north of upper mouth of Youkon) which will be our coast depot and I hope to get some one at work in Sitka. The Russians are [[underlined]] slow coaches [[/underlined]] and I cant expect much from them I fear -

Apropos Zagoskin who explored the lower Kvihpak was evidently a good deal of a humbug. - Capt Klinkofström Russian Consul at San Francisco [[strikethrough]] ad [[/strikethrough]] who has sailed with him admits that at sea any way Zagoskin was a worthless chap and showed the white feather. Klinkofstrom himself is a regular "brick" to say nothing of his being the father of the charming [[underlined]] Miss Olga [[/underlined]]

To him and his oldest daughter the widow of Capt Koshkin (late of the Russian Navy and in the servace [[original misspell]] of the Russian Am Fur Co) I am indebted for most valuable information about the lower Youkon. - If I may take the Klinkofstroms, Baron Osten[[-]]Sacken and young Abasa [[insertion]] now of our exped [[/insertion]] as samples of the Russians I must say they are a splendid set of folk.

Abasa has been sent to Asia in charge of the work there.
