August 1. Left Prineville quite early and took the road toward Farewell Bend. Our route lay over the desert all the way with no water on the way. a distance of 30 miles. Cedars were found all along and when within about 10 miles of the Bend. we passed through quite extensive groves of them. Soon after pines began to be common (Pinus ponderosa) and Pinus (murrayana)? when near Bend (Douglass spruce?) became common. We reached Bend about 4 oclock and followed up the river about 5 miles when we camped on the Des Chutes River. Put out a few traps and caught a mess of trout for supper.

Aneroid read 3600.

Aug. 2.
Put out more traps. Saw an ospreys nest just below our camp. It contained large young.

Aug. 3.
Remained in our camp and set more traps Got some specimens and made them up, and caught some trout at odd times.
