In all, five people came to the world without being born.  After a while there were twelve; about half of them were girls.

One man and one woman (called [[underline]]Taw-teƩ-che[[/undelrine]]) wanted children -- two, or three, or four children.  They sang to [[underline]]Annik'adel'[[/underline]] who was in the air and he told them what to do.  They took from the ocean a small shell -- a long slender horn-shell called [[underline]]Il-le'-pah-ge'[[/underline]] [ [[underline]]Dentalium[[/underline]] ] and put it in frsh water; next morning it was a boy.  Then they took a clam shell from the ocean; next morning it was a girl.
