[[underlined]] Morrill to Carrs Ranch [[/underlined]]

[[underlined]] June 30 [[/underlined]] Got buckboard repaired and ready to start by noon, packed up and drove to Carr's ranch at N.E. corner of Tule Lake, and camped. Elmer Applegate came just in time to go with me.

Traveled almost straight east to the Po Valley road & then turned south to the ranch came about 12 miles. Sagebrush all the way & flat valley. Road sandy most of the way.

Sagebrush, Bigelovias, Kunzia, Ribes, Tetradymia, are the characteristic plants.

Counted 10 fish hawk nests in a grove of pines 2 miles north of the ranch Old & young birds were seen on several of the nests and as many as 6 or 8 old hawks were seen flying around at a time. Several were seen carrying game that was not fish.

Jack Rabbits were seen but seem to be scarce & look very ragged & poor. A cold day, cloudy in morning & evening.

[[underlined]] May 31 [[/underlined]] Started at 6:30 and traveled south along the east side of Tule Lake past the lower end and past Dry Lake. Took left hand road at Timber Butte and crossed lava beds to about 4 miles of Pitt R. and camped [[strikethrough]] at [[/strikethrough]] near head of Black Canyon.

Came about 40 miles.
