[[underlined]] Madelin Plain to Pitt R. Valley [[/underlined]]

[[underlined]] June 4 [[/underlined]] Caught Tamias, a lot of Peromyscus, 3 Onychomys, 4 Perognathus, & 4 Sper. beldingi. Saw a lot of Arctomys & 2 Ochotone.

Started at 7 AM & crossed the divide back into S. Fork Pitt R. Valley & camped in upper end of valley. Came about 35 miles  Camped at 5 P.M., Skinned 10 mammals & set 30 traps.

The divide is 300 feet higher than Madelin Valley & 1100 feet higher than Pitt R. Valley.

The little town - P.O. & store - near camp is called Likely.

[[underlined]] June 5 [[/underlined]] Caught only Perognathus & Peromyscus. Continued down the valley to Alturus & and then south about 12 miles & turned to the north out of Pitt R. Valley on the Steel Swamp road to Antelope Valley and camped at about 5000 feet. and about 8 miles from Pitt R.  Came about 40 miles

[[underlined]] June 6, [[/underlined]] Horses got lost so we could not start till noon. Traveled mostly north through open, sagebrush flats across the level, lava beds. Crossed one Juniper ridge and one side hill of P. ponderosa & cercocarpus, but the open strips seem to go around & make an open connection from Pitt R. Valley to Steel Swamp. A few ranches, big cattle range & lots of stock - plenty of water in places. Camped at spring a few miles S.E. of Steel Swamp. Came about 25 miles.
