[[underlined]] Drews Valley [[/underlined]]

[[underlined]] June 17 [[/underlined]] Did not catch the beaver so decided to wait another night and do some collecting & set a lot of small traps and write up back reports.

Went nearby to the top of a crater close on the west side of camp but found no game except bluegrouse & Lagomys. Large snowbanks lie on top of the buttes and the high up timber is mostly Abies concolor. The high north slopes of these mountains are pure boreal.

[[underlined]] June 18 [[/underlined]] Caught only Peromyscus & a Neasorex Packed up and started down the creek. In about 4 miles came to the open part of Drews Valley and followed it 6 or 8 miles, then turned east over some low ridges and came down into Goose Lake Valley. Struck straight across east till about 6 miles from Lake View & then turned north for 8 or 10 miles and camped near the north end of valley on [[strikethrough]] Salt [[/strikethrough]] Mud Creek.

[[underlined]] Drews Valley [[/underlined]] is mostly a great marsh with a fine creek running through it. Acres of camas make it blue. The sides of the valley are rocky and rough and covered with Sagebrush & Bigelovias & Kunzia. Timber covered mountains surround it. The valley contains no trace of Sonoran species.

[[underlined]] Goose Lake [[/underlined]] Valley is broad & smoothe & covered with sagebrush and a few Sonoran plants. The soil is [[strikethrough]] generally [[/strikethrough]] mellow in places and good ground for Perodipus was passed over.
