[[underlined]] Newark Valley [[/underlined]]

end of the Rubies along the east.

The valley is Sonoran in flora & fauna and has a full set of characteristic Upper Sonoran plants.

Big springs boil up along the west edge of the valley bottom and each one makes a pool of salt marsh. A few small streams come down out of the Diamond Mts. but rarely extend to the bottom of the valley.

A few scattered ranches are not in a very prosperous condition. A good deal of stock is raised in the valley.
Came about 25 miles.

[[underlined]] June 15 [[/underlined]] Started at 7 AM & traveled north till noon along the side of Newark Valley. Lunched on the divide between this & Huntington Valley, then turned east across the end of Huntington Valley and up a low ridge toward [[strikethrough]] R of [[/strikethrough]] the Rubies. camped near the summit of this ridge in the Junipers & PiƱon pines at a well & cabin. Came about 40 miles.

Aneroid at camp 6000, On ridge at noon 6450 but the real divide between the two valleys is lower, about 6250 I estimate.
