From Bear Creek we climbed an easy slope for a few miles and then down into McCloud Creek Valley, then on N.W. to the old site of Elk Lawn and camped.
Came about 25 miles. Aneroid at Bear Creek 4400, on ridge 4575, McCloud Creek 3900 
Camped at Elk Lawn 3375, Road good but very dusty, Through splendid forest most of way.
Pinus atenuata was first met on top of a ridge at 4500 feet on S. slope & seen along in places after.
Boreal Zone on top of ridge & north slopes, but most of the country is Transition & possibly an element of Sonoran.
Dipodomys tracks common near Elk Lawn. One fresh bear track. Shot a bat.
We are said to be 15 & 17 miles from Sisson.
