HOW TO AVOID OIL GAME GYPS, by Joseph D. Mountain

inspectors [[strikethrough]] of the Sesler of Weights and Measures [[/strikethrough]] have a way of [[strikethrough]] catching [[/strikethrough]] ^[[detecting]] these culprits.

"We drive into a station and order five gallons of gas," one of the inspectors said. "The tank on the rear of our car is a dummy, not connected with the engine. We pay for the gas and get receipt showing the number of gallons and the price. Then we drain the gasoline out into a standard five gallon container. Often we find it short one and sometimes two gallons.

Some gasoline creeks will lean against the button which controls this valve while they are putting gas into your [[strikethrough]] tank ^[[car]], thereby letting [[strikethrough]] part ^[[some]] of the gas ^[[for stock]] you are paying [[strikethrough]] for drain back into their storage tank. One pump had all the paint worn off around this [[strikethrough]]valve button. Another enterprising station owner, in order to prevent detection of his gyp, ran a wire from this by-pass valve into his station where it was operated by a second individual. A customer, knowing that his tank was nearly empty, ordered fifteen gallons of gasoline. Seeing that it did not
