[[blank page]] [[end page]] [[start page]] [[underlined]] to El Paso [[/underlined]] [[underlined]] June 2. [[/underlined]] Started down from Cloudcroft at 9 AM, from Toboggan at 10. Read barometer, took notes on plants, & photographed all the way down to Alamogardo where we laid over from 12 to 3. Came down on top of caboose behind 15 loads of logs, made about 7 miles an hour. There are 2 big sawmills at Alamogardo and the El Paso & N.E. R.R. car shop which, with the addition of county seat & a small stream of water seems to give a slight excuse for a town of 1500 people in the bare desert valley. A great, bare playa fills the bottom of Tulerosa Valley, just west of Alamogardo. On the way to El Paso we met & passed through a rain & hail storm in valley with its circling, lurid clouds, solid front of rising dust. Torrents of rain & hail. The Yucca elata are beginning to flower & this rain will soon bring them out. Reached El Paso at 7 P.M. & went to Mrs. Holm's boarding house, at 416 Magoffin Ave. Found it very pleasant.
