[[underline]] June 9 [[/underline]] The night was cool & we had to keep the fire burning to keep warm enough to sleep, but passed a comfortable night. Hunted an hour or so before starting down the mountain & then shot birds on the way down. Reached the horses at 11 A.M. & camp at 2 P.M., tired & hungry. Had only 2 biscuits for lunch yesterday & nothing to eat since for 26 hours but were fortunate in finding plenty of water. Got a good lot of birds but no mammals except old skulls of a bear & a deer.

Found a fine old hound lying on our saddle blankets near the horses & glad to see us. Had evidently got lost so we took him to camp.

[[underline]] June 10 [[/underline]] [[strikethrough]] & 11 [[/strikethrough]] Collected near camp & let our feet get sound again
