to Terlingo. (10 miles)

Camped in gulch about 3 miles before reaching the store & P.O. & sent team in for mail & grub. but the man took the wrong road & went some 10 miles out of his way & didn't get back till 11 P.M. so we had a late supper.

In all came about 26 miles today. Over a good deal of rough country but not half as bad as we were led to suppose. We are now some 10 miles from the river where it comes out of the lower end of the Grand Canyon & up in a dry gulch that runs down to Terlingo Creek some 4 or 5 miles below.

Will have to stay to send specimens, get supplies & have the wagon repaired & mules shod.

The country is much drier & barrer & rougher than on the east side of the Chisos Mts.
The west slope of the Mts. is extremely rough, mainly lava & bad lands

Transcription Notes:
"Terlingo Creek" is probably "Terlingua Creek", but left as written.--thomasc
