[[underlined]] June 2 [[/underlined]]. Went over to the big springs & the lake & added a lot of birds to the list & got a lot of good photos. Took the big spring nearest town which Surber says was sounded last winter & found to be 82 feet deep. It is a round hole down through sandstone rock about [[strikethrough]] 100 [[/strikethrough]] 75 feet across. The water is clear as crystal & you can see white stones on the bottom. The sides are covered with water plants green & beautiful & the water has deep green & blue tints. It is full of minnows that go deep down & can be seen coming up from near the bottom to get air at the surface. A good sized stream runs from the spring & fills 2 irrigation ditches that run for miles. The water is cold & clear but very alkaline.

The second spring is larger than the first, without outlet, & seems like a lake in an inclosed basin. It nearly fills the depression which is a rock walled pit down 50 feet to the water. The pool is probably 300 by 500 feet across, & is fringed with
