[[underlined]] Status Report on Mall Parking Study - Phase II [[/underlined]]

During the meeting of the Board of Regents held on May 5, 1978, the following motion was approved:

VOTED that the Board of Regents directs the Secretary to continue planning for underground Mall parking and approves the sum of $70,000 of trust funds for Phase II of this project, and that the appropriate committees of Congress be informed.

Information concerning this motion and the objectives of the Phase II Study has been forwarded to the Committees on Public Works and Transportation, Appropriations, Government Operations and House Administration of the House and the Committee on Rules and Administration of the Senate, as well as to the Office of Management and Budget.

Substantial progress has been made toward the award of a contract to conduct the Phase II study. Twenty-one firms submitted their respective credentials and documentation in response to the announcement published in the [[underlined]] Commerce Business Daily [[/underlined]] on September 21, 1978. The Architect-Engineer Evaluation Board met on November 1, 1978, to examine the twenty-one submissions and evaluate the capabilities of the various organizations. The submissions were rated based on criteria contained in the [[underlined]] Commerce Business Daily [[/underlined]] announcement, and six firms with the highest ratings were selected for interviews. These interviews, completed on November 20, 1978, will lead to a request for a firm proposal and, after appropriate review and approval, to award of the contract to perform the study.

Based on current information, it appears that a period of four to six months will be required for completion of the parking study.
