The same situation, of dealers attempting to combat correction in faulty dating, has occurred in other fields, notably that of Oriental Carpets, for example in respect to the Asia Minor prayer rugs which were called sixteenth century and were proven to be late eighteenth and nineteenth century, and the Isfahans, so-called, long attributed to the sixteenth century but actually, with a very few exceptions, [[strikethrough]] to be [[/strikethrough]] seventeenth century. When Mr. Pope first published these corrections a storm of protest arose from the dealers but nevertheless the correction was quickly admitted and within a very short space even the auction houses were using the right dating. But in some cases dealers who had sold on the antedating basis were requested to make good on their transactions.

I am enclosing a copy of the expertise with the full account of the tapestry but without the discussion of the problem of dating and its relation to merit.

I received your photograph of the German tapestry but it is not the type their collection calls for. I have also your photograph of the Renaissance fleurette fragment and will show it to my client though I believe it is not the type she had in mind. She is genuinely fond of the real Gothic flavor.
