Dear Germain:

Several years ago you kindly gave me a photograph of a drawing of architectural detail from Strasbourg cathedral, the work of a seventeenth-century artist, Johann Jacob Arhardt. In addition to other related drawings reported in the correspondence of 1969 of which you also sent me photocopies, I can report two more.

In the Städelsches Kunstinstitut of Frankfurt am Main are drawings by Arhardt of two of the cathedral portals; they have been in that collection since 1855 as the gift of J. D. Passavant. They are now reproduced in Edmund Schilling and Kurt Schwarzweller's [[underlined]]Katalog der deutschen Zeichnungen[[/underlined]], published for the Städel in three volumes by the Prestel Verlag of Munich in 1973; catalogue numbers 218 and 219.

As my now sieve-like memory sometimes allows me to recognize something, I am glad to have dredged up this bit and found your photograph. I trust your drawing found a home long ago.

And how are you?

Yours sincerely,
