Mr. Royal Cortissoz,
70 Fifth Avenue,
New York City.

Dear Mr. Cortissoz,

Many thanks for your kind note.

According to your request, I am herewith enclosing you photographs of the two Judith Leysters. They are certainly very interesting pictures. "The Mandoline Player" has all the feeling of a Franz Hals; in fact, until a few years ago it had been called "Hals." Probably, you know there is a picture in the Rijks Museum of Amsterdam by Judith Leyster of this very same subject, only in a larger size. "The Girl with the Tambourine" in the bright red dress is considered to be her masterpiece and we have a very find letter from Mr. Valentiner of Detroit regarding this painting.

You are perfectly right in stating that very little is known about Judith Leyster, who after all was really one of the greatest woman painters, and just like the finest things by Ferdinand Bol are attributed to Rembrandt, so many of Judith Leyster's finest things have been given to Hals.

Thanking you for your kind interest, and taking this opportunity of wishing you a Happy New Year,

Believe me to be,

Yours sincerely,
