Mr. Germaine Seligman
Ritz HOtel,
Paris

Dear Mr. Seligman,

I am taking the liberty of writing to you at the suggestion of Professor Meyer Schapiro, under whom my doctoral dissertation is being written. I am in the process of preparing two documentary art films destined for educational institutions one of which concerns the city of Paris as seen by her artists in the period 1830-1914. It is my intention to employ paintings of the Eiffel Tower as one of the main themes. Professor Schapiro showed Seurat's painting in one of his lectures and he later told me it belongs to your collection. This painting, if you will consent to its reproduction by photograph in the film, will be an important contribution. Would it be possible for me to obtain a photograph of this work, about 6"x8"?

I hope that I may see you personally upon your return to answer any questions you may have in regard to the photograph or the film in general.

Very truly yours
