We the undersigned Freedmen of Lexington and vacinity, having learned with much regret that our [[underline]] protector [[/underline]] Col W F Henderson has been releaved from his duty as Beaureau Officer. And feeling that we will certainly [[strikethrough]] have to suffer under such circumstances. being in the midst of enemies to our race we do hereby petition for his reinstatement as Beaureau Officer and without it we feel that we are [[lost?]] knowing that he has been a good and efficient officer.
