general statement  I have not consulted with any person but wright you and will give you for Refference Dr R J Powell Washington D.C. Govr W W Holden Raleigh N.C. I could give you many others  allow me to State I was one amounst the few that suffered grate loss in consequence of My out Spoken Union Sentemens through the whole Rebellion  I was sent to the lousey basteeles of Jeff Davis but So managed as never to Raise my arm in Rebellion. I would have Suffered death before I would have taken the confed oath. For my Union Sentements the people of my Senatorial district run my name soon after the Surrender and I was elected without oposition. I hope you will excuse me for making these Statements. you could learne all those things from those gentlemen which I have given as Refference.
