Aderline Gatting a colored girl 12 or 13 years old, apprenticed by Lt Penaman of the Freedmens Bureau to John T. Peebles of  Northampton County until she becomes 21 years old- This Indenture is approved of by Lt Foot by substituting 18 years for 21 years. The county court afterwards apprenticed said Adeline to said Peebles which apprenticeship has been recinded by order of Judge Barnes. The county court has since refused to reapprentice the girl and Peebles holds her by the Indenture of the Freedmens Bureau. A petition for habeas corpus has been filed before Judge D.A. Barnes by Allen Edwards and Sarah his wife the latter being the mother of the girl- The Judge has not yet decided the case as he is at a loss to know wheather or not he has the authority to set asid the action of the Bureau And Petitioners lay their claim before Gen Miles.
