Roanoke Island, North Carolina
Dec. 3^d, 1866.

Maj. Gen. O. O. Howard,
Commissioner Bureau Refugees,
Freedmen and Abandoned Lands.

General:
I respectfully ask that my land may be restored to me.

The land is situated upon this island, has not been taken charge of by the Bureau, but many freedmen reside on it — some of whom pay rent. I ask that the land be restored to me in the usual manner.

In this connection, I would state that I was, for more than two years, a pilot in the Navy of the United States, during the late rebellion.

Very respectfully,
Your obedient servant,
Martin [[superscript]] his [[/superscript]] X [[subscript]] mark [[/subscript]] Hubbard.

Witness:
M. v'B. Gilbert.
