 To Bvt Major T.H.Hay F B H H.

Sir,
I This day Received the Military Fe Fa addressed to me on the 23^rd [[soor ??]] in the matter of Mat Puryear & others, vs. Hughes & Taylor all the property of these parties except the Tobacco mentioned in your order is advertised for sale on the 14- & 16-, Inst. to Satisfy executions in my hands in favor of other parties the Tobacco. I have good and Satisfactory reason to believe is in this county and concealed by Robt Elliot, George W Watkins, & James Elliot So that I cannot get it. Some Say it is in Virginia at the Mill or plantation of W B Hughes, I have no Doubt Watkins & Elliot know where the Tobacco is even if they have not the possession, but I have no power under our law to [[smudge - "compel"]] them to disclose or give me information
You will Recollect that by a former order I was directed to hold $500 of the Defendants property to Satisfy the judgments in this case if obtained. I respectfully ask further instructions

Very Respectfully yours
W A Philpott Shff,
Granville cty.
