Setting forth — that they are Colored Citizens of Roanoke Island N. C.

That they having received orders to remove from the lands of I. C. Meekins & others, Wish the Order deferred —

Plea — It being in the middle of Winter & having to be thrown out without Shelter their Suffering must be very grate. — that the season for shad fishing an occupation which they nearly all follow for support — also comes in direct conflict with this said order - they being constantly engaged in fitting [[?]] their nets, Boats &c

Therefore they respectfully request a short extension of the time — & pray that their condition be considered — & that Order deferred — say till the middle of May or first of June next.—

That they pledge themselves to vacate every foot of the said lands by that time.
