B. R. F. & A. L. Office Asst Sup't Charlotte N. C., Nov. 8.'66. Captain. Yours of the 7^th just received. Mr. Fondren sent a personal application for transportation [[underline]] direct [[/underline]] to Gen. S. Thomas, Oct. 27^th. A telegram from Gen. Thomas was rec'd by him on the 2d inst, which read:- "Transportation will be furnished thro' Ass't Com^r." Interpreting the telegram to mean that he should have applied thro' the Ass't Com'r, a formal application was made, forwarded by me, dated Nov. 3^d.
