Maj Nitzche formerly of the 39^th U. S. C. Inf^y is desirous of obtaining an appointment as a civil agent of the Freedmans' Bureau in North Carolina.

The Major was on detached service as Depot Ordnance Officer at Wilmington for several months and in that capacity superintended the shipment North of the Ordnance Stores captured from Johnstons Army. 

I was at the time Ord Officer on Gen. Schofields Staff and Maj Nitzche's official action came under my supervision.

I have not met in the service a more intelligent or more
