Solomon Nash being duly sworn doth depose and say: That early in the month of May last he was present in the Grocery Store of Mr Evans on Market Street in the City of Wilmington and a number of men were conversing on the subject of Taxes, that one of the men, a Colored [[strikethrough]] man [[/strikethrough]] man named Robert Moore, stated that he had that day been up to the City Hall to the Office of the Freedmans Bureau to obtain advice about paying a poll Tax. That he was charged one dollar for the advice given him, and that he paid the said sum of one dollar to an Officer of the Freedmans Bureau. and this deponant further says that he then said he did not believe the story but that he would enquire about it and that he then called at the Office of the Freedmans Bureau and saw Captain Rutherford the Superintendant in private and told him the story that Captain Rutherford directed him to bring the man before him in order that the case might be investi[[gated]]
