on the staff of Maj. Genl. Crook as A.A.A. Genl. then commanding the District of Wilmington N.C. and served with him until Dec. 25th 1865 when I was detailed as Judge Advocate of the Military Courts in the District of Wilmington. On the 9th of April 1866. I returned to my Regiment for duty and served with it until Feb. 9th 1868, when my Regiment was Mustered Out, and I with it during the time that I served I was Breveted Twice, once to the rank of Captain in my first Regiment for meritorious and gallant conduct during the Wilderness Campaign and during my service in the 31st U.S.C.T. to the rank of Major for faithful and meritorious service [[strikethrough]] conduct [[/strikethrough]] during the War. After I was finally discharged the service I resumed the practice of Law in this City. (being of the Philadelphia Bar) and took a lively interest in the rights [[strikethrough]] interests [[/strikethrough]] of the Freedmen as guaranteed them by the Re construction act of Congress. My action is well known to Col. Frank. Commandant of this Post. and Gen'l. Allen Rutherford, Sub Asst.
