Major General O. O. Howard
Com. Bureau Refugees Freedmen
and abandoned lands.

General

I most respectfully ask that you may restore to me my land situated on Roanoke Island, containing one hundred and forty (140) acres in two different tracts, and now under the charge of the Bureau.

Very few colored people are living now on the above stated land six families in all, most of them my former slaves and they are at liberty to remain as long as they desire, - My object in forwarding this petition is, that I intend to sell one part of the land herein stated which can not be done otherwise unless the land is returned to me; allow me to state that I have never taken any active part in the rebellion and remaind always at my home during the time
