went through. This afternoon I walked around downtown a bit, strolling down to the lake. They were cutting ice in the landlocked harbor, which was frozen solid. The shore is lined with piers and huge grain elevators alongside which were those long lake boats, big boats. And of course all that thrilled me. But I got the biggest kick when I came upon a little old sailing vessel moored permanently near the shore. Here is the wording of the sign on its mast:

Today I began my test work and also met a number of the boys. There are, I believe, some fifteen of us from Schenectady. Among those I have met now are:

[[underlined]] Barber, [[/underlined]] who looks exactly like Sturdy from the back. He is very polite, very pleasant, and I like him.

[[underlined]] Wing,[[/underlined]] who makes me think somehow of Russell Robey. He is on "locos" now, having been here almost nine months.

[[underlined]] Hoffman, [[/underlined]] one of the boys whom Roemlle told me to look up. I have seen him in Schenectady frequently and remember him way back in July 1924 eating opposite me in "48". He is a jolly sort, utterly different from my impression of him.

[[underlined]] Allende, [[/underlined]]a boy from Santiago, Chile, who is a Unitarian and was much pleased to find me one too. He is to take me to church next Sunday. He is typically Spanish looking and speaks English quite fluently although has an accent. I should like to become better acquainted with him for he seems a very interesting type to me. He thinks Mr. Caldecott the best preacher in Schenectady and evidently is interested in interesting
