45 or 5O I should say, with a smooth face, rather round, and wears glasses. Somehow, he reminded me of Chris Steenstrup, my old chief, and "the king" certainly didn't look the least bit literary, nor was he. However, one cannot say the latter of Mr Cabell. Dr. Dutton says "Jumen" is a satire on modern civilization and it must be terribly clever. Roddy wants to read "Figures of Earth" now, having just finished "Jurgen," which is also written in the allegorical form, I believe. ...... (I relate the story of the church dance but it is so similar to my account to Mother, I'll not repeat it, suffice it to say that Castellino was quite a hit whereas Allende danced with the same girl all evening and wasn't at all sociable for some reason.)

[[underlined]]To Mother, February 26, 1926[[/underlined]]: Ferella is back here again after a week's sojourn in Schenectady. Dr. Dutton wants us to get him to come down and tell the adult class about Mussolini and I'm sure he will do it...... I heard tonight that there are to be ten New York Central passenger locomotives coming through test after the "New Havens" and they will undoubtedly be the ones I shall work on. They have a maximum speed of eighty miles per hour so imagine the fun we shall have with them next fall. The greatest speed they have attained on our test track is 103 miles per hour, with the Paris-Orleans locomotives..... My work is very interesting and now I am in possession of enough experience to have charge of work and that makes the thing even more enjoyable. Today I had charge of commutation tests on an Illinois Central motor and such a complicated arrangement of motors, generators, water boxes, rheostats, etc. you never did see. I think I am getting the hang of the business fairly well now. Here is a wiring diagram of the job; it wont mean much probably except to give you some idea of how intricate it is:

I might be able to explain it if I were with you but not in writing; I fear that would be impossible. ...... Tonight we have a rehearsal. I almost took forward to them because we do have such a jolly, sociable time together. Lenore and Marie are awfully nice girls. Mrs. Kloss I'm very fond of. (Should I say that?) and the boys are all right too. ...... Tomorrow it is Meadville and a renewal of old friendships. I know I shall have a mighty interesting weekend. Will try to tell you everything about it. ...... Willie is getting quite literary. reading Mencken, Cabell and Conrad, and planning to read "The Little French Girl."
