were to buy only passenger engines right now, they'd buy only five or possibly six because they need extra passenger power on only 20-days per year at the outside. But they want their new freight in big units to cut maintenance, in making any locomotive designs. Moreover, the Boston electrification must be kept in mind in making any locomotive designs or plans. They gave us a proposed passenger schedule from Grand Central to new Haven of 1 hr. 18 min. including increasing the speed limit on certain drawbridges from 45 to 60 mph. and handling 15--80-ton cars. They supplied a lot more data I shan't mention and asked us to begin figuring. To make a long story short, they ended up buying the six 0361-type passenger locomotives and later five or six freights from us. But the Boston electrification never went through. Today, however, with the whole new picture regarding energy shortages, it seems as though the Boston electrification might be revived.
