The weather finally cleared today and late this afternoon was able to get in a couple of sets of singles with Mrs. Asche, who, they say, is lady champ of Houston, Tex. I took first set 6-4 and she pulled up from 1-5 to beat me 7-5. She is a corking good player and you don't have to pull any shots when you play with her either - she can give 'em and take 'em with the best of them and very steady - can return almost anything. Got in a lot of horseshoes today too, so many in fact, that my hand began to get raw and had to use my kid glove toward the end. The Ketteriches left this morning, so Taft Lost his partner and took Bill Brown instead vs. Campbell and me. They took us but the competition was pretty tough. Had a sociable evening in the main hall, playing Round Robin ping-pong, anecdotes, etc. Found Taft and Campbell out on the big rock in front of the Lodge with Dot Young, the piano player. I think they're both a little sweet on her - there they were gazing at the moon, which was almost full.

Got in some nice doubles this morning, Mrs. Bamford (Sidney's mama) and I vs. Marjorie Russel and Bob Simon, son of the Simons who have been here. He just arrived, a Harvard undergrad and a good tennis man. Seems also to be a very nice chap, a little on the wealthy side. Then got in a set of singles with Mrs. Asche, who trimmed me nicely 6-3 after having won ^[[insertion]] the semi-finals in [[/insertion]]the women's tournament 6-2, 6-0 from Carol Stoves.
