really accomplishing these undeniable, rather repugnant tasks.
Drove to Chautauqua this afternoon and brought Mother home. She really seems better and more cheerful than in sometime and we had a nice evening showing the Shanty Shane & Buena Vista movies. Mother being really enthused over the color shots. The MacDonalds including Dorothy Jean came in also for the films, for as I should have noted sooner, this is Babbie's 10th birthday and we had a cake for her tonight. This is a real milestone for her, the first decade and it makes us realize that we are getting along to have a 10 year old daughter. She is so sweet and bright and attractive; how fortunate we are to have her and Roger.

Friday Maurice Guynes said to me, "Say, that was an awfully nice letter Jim Smith wrote to Rally about loading the new engines." It was the one I wrote last Wednesday and Jim signed and I told Maurice so. But the point occured to me that here's a gem of an idea for a story - let us say Maurice thinks anything Jim does is okay, anything I do N.G. So I slip one over on him neatly by letting Jim sign a letter I have wanted to write but couldn't because Maurice wouldn't agree with me. After he has committed himself I let him know who wrote it. Think it over, son.
Spent day at office plotting up ventilation test results and writing letter to Jim Smith closing out this affair except for preventive coils which Bob Walsh is studying. Quiet evening at home. Mother is reading Rog "Treasure Island" and he is enthralled. Before retiring he drank water from a Coca-Cola bottle - his "rum". Still running a slight temperature which we think may be his new teeth bothering him as he eats & feels well.
