Thorpe called me this afternoon to say Niven will be in Washington Monday and Tuesday, and suggested I go direct to Washington from here, contact Niven there and return via Sch'dy the latter part of the week. So that is all set up and Berwick is out of the picture.

We put the Colonel on the 7:57 this evening for his return to L'ville and he promised to return X-mas. Also he says he'll make me a new suit for X-mas and I can use that - was thinking of offering to buy one from him. Perhaps I'll do that in the spring.

Shopping and screening today - my match box cover job is coming along. Sometimes I think it looks silly to work at such a job but after all, what harm. It's no worse than sitting around reading a murder mystery - both are for relaxation.

This evening we went to see Bette Davis and Errol Flynn in "The Private Lives of Elizabeth and Essex" - a gorgeous affair in color and as usual, Bette ringing the bell with a magnificent performance - Errol making ladies hearts go upside down - and not least of all, Olivia de Havilland, the loveliest thing eye ever fell on.

Forgot to mention that Thursday, in addition to Rog breaking window, I broke my glasses and found the tail light knocked off the car. If I were superstitious, I could expect most anything but thank heaven, I'm not. When things do happen, its coincidence.
