[[/underlined]] This fund, which was given for the purpose of establishing the Hughes Alcove, now totals $11,170.99, of which $1800. is in the form of a real estate secured note and $629.06 in cash. [[underlined]] Frances Lea Chamberlain Funds. [[/underlined]] Two bequests were made by Dr. Leander T. Chamberlain as a memorial to his wife, Frances Lea. One of these, of $10,000. was received in 1915, and the other, of $25,000. in June, 1921. The income from these funds is to be expended in the improvement and increase of the Isaac Lea Collections of "Mollusks" and of "Gems and Gem Material", now in the National Museum. No income has as yet been received from the latter, owing to its very recent acquisition, but $530.00 has come in from the $10,000 bequest, and this amount is being applied to the purposes indicated by the testator. [[underlined]] Addison T. Reid Bequest. [[/underlined]] This bequest, which is to found a Chair in Biology as a memorial to the testator's grandfather, Asher Tunis, now amounts to $14,260.00. The bequest was subject to the condition that the income was to be paid in three shares to certain named beneficiaries until their death, when the principal of each share, with accumulations, was to come to the Institution. Two of these beneficiaries have died, and their shares have been received. The remaining share represents approximately $5,000.00. [[underlined]] Miscellaneous Bequests. [[/underlined]] A number of small bequests, aggregating several thousand dollars, have been included in the Consolidated Fund. [[underlined]] Residual Bequests. [[/underlined]] The Institution is made the residuary legatee of the following estates, subject to the death of certain beneficiaries: The Joseph White Sprague Bequest; The Lucy Hunter Baird Bequest; The Riter Fitzgerald Bequest; The Caroline Henry Bequest; from which also a cash bequest of $1,000 has been received. [[underlined]] Consolidated Fund: [[/underlined]] This Fund is in excess of the One million dollars deposited in the Treasury of the United States under the authority of the organic act. It includes several of the bequests referred to above, and now amounts to $157,562.05. It is made up of the following securities, acquired either through purchase or by gift: Province of Manitoba 5pc gold debentures, due 1922; West Shore Railroad guaranteed 4pc 1st mortgage bonds, due 2361; Cleveland Electric Illuminating Co. 1st mortgage 5pc gold bonds, due 1939; Atchison,Topeka & Santa Fe R.R.Co. 4pc general mortgage bonds, due 1995.
