The Secretary then mentioned, ^[[with]] explanatory remarks, recent financial receipts by gifts and otherwise, as follows:-

Smithsonian Scientific Series; Royalties, July-December, 1930 $10,537.98

Research Corporation; grant for 1931, to promote studies of radiation and pant growth - $21,000.00

Bruce Hughes Fund(final payment); to establish the Bruce Hughes Alcove(Fund now amounts to nearly $20,000) - 1,959.89

Frederick D. Barstow Fund;for purchase of living animals, National Zoological Park - $1,000.00

Zerbee Fund; for an aquarium as a memorial to Frances Brinkle Zerbee, National Zoological Park - 1,000.00

Otto T. Mallery; towards salary of J.A. Jeancon for special work for Bureau of American Ethnology - $1,200.00

PROPOSED PUGSLEY BEQUEST.

The Secretary then read a codicil to the last Will and Testament of Chester D. Pugsley, of Peekskill, N.Y., as follows:-

I, Chester D. Pugsley, of Peekskill, Westchester County, New York, do make and declare this to be a Codicil to my last Will and Testament, which is dated January 28,1920:-

[[underlined]] First: [[/underlined]] I given to the Smithsonian Institution an establishment of the District of Columbia, organized under Act of Congress, in thrust nevertheless, all my shares of the capital stock of the Irving Trust Company of New York, and the Lloyds Casualty Company of New York, or their successors, and I direct that these investments remain unchanged by the Regents of the Smithsonian Institution unless in the futhre such circumstances should arise as to make their reinvestment necessary in the judgment of said Regents. The income of this foundation, after deducting up to one-tenth thereof for administration expenses, shall be divided into two equal parts. One part thereof shall be administered by the Smithsonian Institution in collaboration with the National Academy of Sciences, and shall be applied annually for the offer of a world prize for the greatest contribution to the advancement of knowledge or the most important service to humanity during the previous calendar year in fields other than physics, chemistry, physiology or medicine, literature and world peace, for which there are Nobel Prizes, but it may be awarded in collateral or allied fields, as in astronomy or journalism, to those specifically excluded. It shall be available for nationals of any country, in addition to Americans, on condition that they come to the United States to receive the award, and my wish is that the President of the United States makes the presentations. Income unexpended by reason of the non-award of the prize, or for any other reason, is to be added to the corpus of the trust. The prize may be divided, and it may be given by division in more than one field. It can be awarded to an organization was well as an individual.
