The Secretary explained the status of this work, saying that eleven volumes had been published, and that he was preparing the matter for the twelfth volume, which would deal with great inventions, among them the many forms of electrical service that have developed from Faraday's discovery of electricity from magnetism in 1831.

(Mr. Luce here remarked that he was receiving regularly the publications of the Institution, but that they were too technical for his comprehension or for the understanding of his constituents: and asked if he could not be supplied with publications that they would be able to understand. The nature of the publications was explained - that is, that the technical issues were for scientists and students, and the popular kind, such as the appendix to the Smithsonian Reports, the exploration pamphlets, etc., were for the general reader.)

[[underlined]] Research Corporation. [[/underlined]] This Corporation was continuing its generosity in providing means for the conduct of the work of the Division of Radiation and Organisms, having to rate contributed over $60,000.00.

[[underlined]] Roebling Gifts. [[/underlined]] The many and generous gifts of Mr. John A. Roebling to forward the work of the Astrophysical Observatory have been mentioned from time to time. During the past year he had added to his already large donations the sum of $28,000.00, for use in connection with the location of suitable sites for Observing Stations, and for other purposes.

[[underlined]] North American Wild Flowers. [[/underlined]] The sales of the five-volume set of portfolios entitled "North American Wild Flowers" have continued, ten sets of the De Luxe Edition, at $500.00 per set, and twenty-five sets of the Library Edition, at $150.00 per set, having been sold during the past year.

The 400 original water-color paintings for his series were executed by Mrs. Charles D. Walcott, and were furnished to the Institution without
