May 13th, 1938

Dear Mr. de Chirico:

Mr. Germain Séligmann received your letter just as he was about to leave on a trip to the west, and he has asked me to acknowledge its receipt and thank you on his behalf.

As requested by you, we are enclosing our contract in reference to your exhibition to be held at our galleries. You will note that we have set as dates the period from December 19th, 1938 to January 7th, 1939, which slight divergence was necessitated by the schedule of our own exhibitions which was prepared in advance.

Pursuant to your wish, we are giving you below a list of the pictures which are already at our galleries:-

[[underlined]]Paintings[[/underlined]] | "Picador"
| "Paysage"
| "Maréchal Ferrant"
| "Homme avec Deux Chevaux"
| "Athlète"
| "Athlète"
| "Boys with Horses" (large canvas)
| "Baigneuses" (large canvas)

[[underlined]]Gouache[[/underlined]] | "Homme à Cheval"

In this connection we confirm that all the above canvases remain at our galleries entirely at your own risk. In other words we have not covered any of them by insurance and in case of damage we cannot be held responsible for same.

Because of the very considerable preparatory work entailed, we must have our exhibition schedule completed before very long and, therefore, should we not be in possession of your signed contract by June 20th, we shall assume that you have decided against holding this show.
