No cuttings showed during coring. No sample bags for the 600' - 610' & 610' - 620' intervals. 2 feet of core recovered. Material fairly hard but porous "cemented" shell, coral, and recrystallized (?) Ca C03. Most of the material in this and the 1ST core taken fluoresces yellow. This core consists of 15 pieces, 2 of which are very small. At top of core is one large piece about 6" long.

Driller said drilling was hard for only a short distance ^[[ [[strikethrough]] [[unreadable]] [[/strikethrough]] ]] & the core probably represents this hard zone.

9 P.M. - 9:45 P.M. Removing corer. Rest of shift spent cleaning rig & preparing to drill.

May 17 - 1952. no cuttings 620' - 630'

12.30. Started collecting samples at 640 (630-640) -[coral & moll no larger forams noted HSL]

0300 SOFT BLACK [CHARCOAL (?)] ^[[carb mat]] APPEARS.

0330 REACH 900 ft [[strikethrough]] BEGIN [[/strikethrough]] CORING OPERATION - anticipated & drilling stopped. Check with Dr. Ladd resulted in decision to go to 1200 ft before coring. Change in texture from [[strikethrough]]fr[[/strikethrough]] coarse in 890-900 sample to fine in 900-910 is due to hole being cleaned out while bit was held at 900 ft. Fines were only fraction left in suspension when operations
