Many are living who can testify that Henry Vinton Plummer and Sarah Miranda Plummer. Howard. Clarke were the [[underlined]] founders [[/underlined]] and [[underlined]] prime movers [[/underlined]] of The Union born in the First Baptist Church (formerly known as St. Paul's) in 1870.

On July 8, 1907, the old church erected in 1718, caught fire and was destroyed. This Grand Old Union then came to the rescue of her Mother church by helping to pay her rent. Later more suitable action was taken which the following will explain -

Statement by Nicholas Saunders Plummer, President of the Bladensburg Union.

To the First Baptist Church Bladensburg. I have the very great pleasure of stating to you, that the "Great Union" of which I am so proud, did, at its regular meeting, the first Monday in March last vote to you, in your distress caused by fire, the handsome sum of one hundred dollars ($100.), with this understanding _ When the new building is ready to be dedicated, I, as president, shall be empowered to lay a check or bill on the table to their credit, to the sum of $100.

This charitable, and therefore Christ like act, was moved by brother Augustus Bowie of Dent Chapel, and seconded by brother John Foster, whom, I'm sorry to say is not a member of either church!

The above order of the Union was carried out on Sunday Aug. 2, 1908, at the close of morning services held in the lecture room of the new church, when Nellie A. Plummer as treasurer placed on the table in the presence of the congregation
