Dear Sir,

Your favor of the 2nd came duly, asking for an approximate estimate of the cost of painting the Washington School-house in Raleigh.

The building has, as near as I can reckon, four thousand sq. ft. on the outside.  According to painters here two coats of pain over that surface would require
20 kegs (500 lbs.) white lead - $100.00
20 gallons oil 20.00
4 gallons turpentine 3.00
Total for materials ..... $123.00
