Maj. Gen^l Nelson A Miles
Assistant Commissioner
Bu. R. F. & A. L.
Raleigh N. C.

General:
Rev Thomas Henderson called upon me this A. M. & says you wish me to become a member of the "Advisory Board" of the proposed Bank.

When the Board were elected I did not consider myself eligible and had I so considered myself I should have declined for these reasons: First, because while I hold an official position, I wish to have just as little to do with money belonging to private parties as possible; Second, I think that many individuals would use it to the injury of the officers influence So doing, by saying that he interested himself from mercenary motives.
