Sir:

I have the honor to report herewith an outrage upon a freedman. John C. Love, freedman, was, on the 20th ultimo, found near this town intoxicated, lying in a corner of the fence by the road, with his head badly cut, by a blow upon the left temple, and his pockets rifled, of seven dollars currency. I have spent several days in investigating the case, but have not been able to collect any evidence implicating any party. I shall continue the investigation, and report any facts that may be elicited.
