desires to act dishonestly.

I tried to deal fairly with him at first, but now seeing his rascality, my desire is to have the entire contract annulled, for the reason, 1st it never was entirely read to the freedman, 2nd Not signed by witnesses, 3rd It is the most binding contract I ever read. By this contract eleven persons worked, constituting 10 1/2 hands. 4 1/2 left him, the others are yet working for him by the same contract, and no doubt when the year is over they will have the same trouble.

I respectfully request that this case be attended to at once, and my action sustained, otherwise in future I will have great difficulty in settling similar accounts with others, even my authority will be defied.

In ordering Mr Abbott to supply the freedmen with corn I made a calculation and the Tobacco, now in his hands will fully over-pay all the accounts he has against the freedmen.

Be pleased after examination to return the contract and accounts to my office.

I am Sir
Very Respectfully
Your Obt Servt.
