[[underlined]] Garrett [[/underlined]] lived there for two weeks, & not being able to find a house (Nobody wanting to rent him) a man named [[underlined]] Wilson [[/underlined]] advised them to move to a free school-house (unoccupied) until they could find a suitable place, there they lived about 4 days, when on the 4" of August in the afternoon, about seven men, amongst them, known to the wife of [[underlined]] Garrett [[/underlined]], were [[underlined]] George Windsor [[/underlined]], [[underlined]] John Justice [[/underlined]] & [[underlined]] John Chance [[/underlined]], of said neighborhood, went there under the pretext, that they desired to fix the school house for meeting purpose, and told [[underlined]] Garretts [[/underlined]] wife, that she had to move out at once.  They helped her to move out of the building, everything, about twenty yards from the building,- nothing more occurred there, they all left.  At night about 11 oclock, two men [[underlined]] "K. K. K.'s" [[/underlined]] all dressed in the most horrible manner, their faces painted black, accosted [[underlined]] Garrett, [[/underlined]] (who was sitting by the fire, his family asleep) with the words, "what camp is here?"  The words were spoken in such a manner, that [[underlined]] Garrett [[/underlined]] was frightened, whereupon he fled to the woods, they then awoke his wife and told her to dress herself and children, as they intended to burn up every thing they had there; she begged them to allow her bedding, which they allowed, at the same time, telling the woman to move away the clothing, and bedding,
