My Dear Sir,
From a brief conversation with General Howard & his expressed desire to allow the Friends of African Colonization all facilities of communicating with intelligent Freedmen I am led to ask your attention to the subject & especially whether it would be wise for the Colonization Society to direct the thoughts of your Colored people to Africa as their home. The society might aid many to emigrate were they desirous & ready to go - a great Continent opens its arms to receive the people & they may enrich it with Christianity & Civilization.

Your most truly
